A tenant farmer allegedly committed suicide unable to cope with financial losses in cotton cultivation at Reddypalem in Burgampadu mandal in the early hours on Wednesday.

According to sources, Narsi Reddy, 35, had taken six-acre land on lease and cultivated cotton by borrowing money from a private moneylender last year. His hopes of a good harvest were shattered due to low crop yield landing him in debt. Narsi Reddy reportedly gifted his two acres land to his sister to fulfil a domestic obligation a few years ago and subsequently became a tenant farmer to eke out a living.

Rythu Bandhu

Grief-stricken relatives of the deceased bemoaned that he could not avail the Rythu Bandhu scheme being a tenant farmer and took the drastic step.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two children.
