Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar said Rajanna-Sircilla district topped in the State in protecting the saplings planted under Haritha Haram.

He was participating in a programme organised to distribute T-shirts to school students who were appointed as ‘Haritha Brigade’ for protecting saplings in Sircilla textile town on Thursday. On the occasion, the Collector said the survival rate of saplings in the district was 65%, the highest in the State, and called upon all sections to ensure that the survival rate goes up further.

He asked students to protect at least three saplings so that the district would turn into a green heaven in a short time. Stating that the government aims to achieve 33% of forest cover in the State, he informed the volunteers of Haritha Brigade to make it happen.

Municipal Commissioner Ramanachary said the Haritha Brigade comprises four volunteers in each municipal division.
