Oil palm price hike sought

Agriculture Department Principal Secretary C. Parthsarathi requested the Central government to make amendments to the support price being paid for farmers engaged in oil palm cultivation.

Mr. Parthasarathi wanted the Centre to fix the support price to farmers between Rs. 11,700 and Rs. 12,675 a tonne for fresh fruit bunches incorporating the margin of around 30% over the cost of cultivation for making it remunerative. The proposed amendment would enable in enhancing the cultivated area significantly.

He made the suggestions at a meeting convened by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices in New Delhi on Friday. CACP Chairman Vijay Paul Sharma, Member Secretary Sailaja Sharma and other senior officials participated.
