Karnataka campaigns for millet cultivation

A road show organised by Karnataka government to promote millet revolution across the country was inaugurated by Karnataka Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda at Taj Krishna here.

The road show is a precursor to the International Trade Fair - Organics and Millets 2018, scheduled to be held at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru from January 19 to 21.

Similar road show was organised at Chennai recently and more would be held across the country. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gowda said the fair would be a platform to bring farmers, marketers and consumers under one roof. Karnataka was the first State to take the ‘Organic and Millet’ message through the initiative of road shows across the country and sought the support of neighbouring States.

The Minister emphasised that the message to be conveyed would be simple: “We have to reacquaint ourselves with millets. Including millets in our diet will be a panacea for most of the health crisis we face today,” he said.

He said in Karnataka organic and millet farmers had been organised into 14 regional federations. The International Trade Fair- Organics and Millets 2018 would be an excellent platform to connect with this wide producer base. The fair would facilitate organised product processors, manufacturers of farm equipment and others to showcase their products and expertise in the organised and millet related areas.
