With the arrest of 36-year-old habitual offender on Friday, the Kushaiguda police solved a series of house burglary cases reported in the area. They recovered 32 tolas of gold and 7.5 kg of silver articles worth Rs. 13 lakh from his possession.

The accused was identified as Mohammed Mehaboob Pasha alias ‘Biryani’ Pasha, involved in over 10 cases in the city. He was a cook in Kolhapur of Maharashtra and his penchant for eating a huge quantity of biryani in a single meal earned him the sobriquet ‘Biryani’ Pasha. He was involved in more than 50 burglaries across the State. He took to burglary after he gave up his cooking profession.

In 2016, the Preventive Detention Act was invoked against the accused by Vanasthalipuram police and was released in February this year. “After getting out of prison, he committed 10 house burglaries,” said Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat.
