Work at offices hit as revenue staff go on mass casual leave

Routine works at the Collectorate, taluk offices and revenue divisional offices in the district were affected after members of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials’ Association took mass casual leave on Wednesday demanding that the State government provide compensation of Rs. 50 lakh each to the families of revenue officials, who died of COVID-19.

Demonstration staged

Employees, who gathered at the taluk office at the Panneerselvam Park and staged a demonstration, said that many employees lost their lives while on duty during the past four months and 260 employees and their families are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across the State.

Though the State government had announced a compensation of Rs. 50 lakh each to the victims families, no action has been taken so far.

PPE sought

“If an employee tested positive, best treatment should be provided besides ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to each”, they said. Since employees risk their lives and that of their family members, the government should provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all, they added.
