Work apace on Tirumullaiyoval women's industrial park

CHENNAI DEC. 4. The first phase of the proposed 1,000-acre industrial estate of the Small Industries Development Corporation at suburban Tirumullaivoyal is being developed as a women's industrial park.

The park, to accommodate non-polluting industrial units, on about 290 acres will have about 500 plots of varying sizes. The SIDCO has acquired 218 acres and proposes to allot plots measuring from 25 cents onwards.

``On acquisition of the remaining land, we will allot plots of smaller sizes up to 10 cents for tiny units. Land in the park has been earmarked for common amenities including a TNEB sub-station, a bus terminus, a bank, a police station, a post office, a fire station and a petrol bunk'', SIDCO official said.

Work on the park, through which the proposed Outer Ring Road would pass, was in progress and scheduled for completion by March. ``It will be a well-planned facility with broad roads, good streetlighting, a stormwater drain, a centralised sewage treatment plant, four borewells and two overhead tanks. There is also a proposal to provide a direct road link from Tirumullaivoyal''.

The SIDCO would invest Rs.6.10 crores in the development of the park. It was planning to set up similar facilities in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Salem also.

The Rural Industries Minister, R. Vadivel, recently held a review meeting and urged SIDCO officials to maintain quality and speed up implementation of the park project.

The SIDCO officials claimed that response from entrepreneurs was good - 63 women had submitted applications with the earnest money deposit seeking plots, priced at about Rs.9 lakhs an acre.
