Woman, child murdered in broad daylight

BANGALORE, JAN. 31. A woman and her four-year-old daughter were murdered in their house near Bhashyam Circle in Rajajinagar here on Thursday.

According to an eye-witness account, a man, who was wearing a blue shirt, was seen running away from the house situated at 59th Cross, Rajajinagar, around 2.30 p.m.

The assailant reportedly stabbed Priayadevi (30) in the neck and slit the throat of her daughter, Neha, who lived on the first floor of the three-storeyed building situated in a densely populated area. The building also houses some shops on the ground floor. The inmates of the house on the second floor, who heard the cries of the victims, called their relative, Jogaram, who runs a shop nearby. Though he sighted the assailant, he first rushed to the house to console the inmates.

By the time he came out, the assailant had reportedly fled. Mr. Jogaram told The Hindu that he later called the husband of the victim, Hitender Kumar, who owns an electrical equipment shop in Chickpet.

Police said that on arrival, Mr. Hitender Kumar found his wife and daughter lying in a pool of blood. His wife was lying on the floor in the hall near the television, while his daughter's body was on the cot in the bedroom. The bodies were shifted to the Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.

Police said the gold and diamond jewellery worn by Priyadevi were intact. The other jewellery kept in the house were also not touched.

People of the area were aghast that such an incident had occurred in a busy area and that too in broad daylight.

Police said a knife was recovered from the place. Top police officers visited the spot.
