POLLACHI: The State Government has issued orders to release water from Tirumurthy Dam for the fourth zone ayacuts under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) from Sunday.

According to sources, water will be released for 90 days for five wettings.

Around 98,500 acres in Udumalpet, Pollachi, Palladam, Pongalur, Kangeyam and Vellakoil areas is covered in the fourth zone.

As the storage level in Solayar, Parambikulam, Thunakkadavu and Peruvarippalam dams was comfortable, there would be no problem in releasing water for irrigation, sources said.

Monsoon effect

While the South West Monsoon rain had helped increasing the storage level in the dams in the Western Ghats, the North East Monsoon was expected to supplement this in October and November, they hoped.

Desilting

The Public Works Department has undertaken desilting of supply canals to ensure free flow of water to tail end areas.
