Waste segregation can fetch Rs. 2-lakh reward

Speaking at the fourth edition of the ‘Happy Street’ event on Sunday at Thirunagar here, Madurai Corporation Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar said that the Corporation would be announcing a cash award of Rs. 2 lakh that will be collectively awarded to residents’ associations or residents of particular streets, who excel in waste segregation and proper disposal of waste.

Highlighting that Madurai Corporation Swachh Survekshan survey of the union government, he urged all the residents to striv towards effective segregation of waste at household-level so that the city could be ranked the cleanest in the country.

Stating that the selection criteria and other details about the award would be announced later, he said that the residents’ associations or streets adjudged as second and third best in waste segregation would receive a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh respectively.

He asked all the residents’ associations and residents of different streets to come together as a group and register themselves with the Corporation to become eligible for the competition.
