Women had promised victim employment in the Collector's office

CHENNAI: The `job racket wing' of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested two women on Saturday on charges of cheating. According to police, Varalakshmi (22) and her sister Kalpana (15) of Arcot allegedly collected money from G.Prabhakaran of Masinagudi in the Nilgiris district, assuring him a job in the Collector's office. Varalakshmi introduced herself as Vatsala, an officer at the Secretariat. She demanded Rs 2 lakh from Prabhakaran, which he paid in four instalments. She assured Mr. Prabhakaran that he would get the appointment order on or before January 15 this year. He realised he was cheated only when he checked with officials at the Secretariat when the promised order failed to arrive. He filed a complaint with the CCB authorities and a special team was formed.

The arrested women were remanded to custody. Further investigations are on.
