CUDDALORE: Special police team constituted by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sanjay Arora and Superintendent of Police K. Periaiah (Cuddalore incharge) has unravelled the mystery behind the death of two youths who died soon after taking liquor bought from a TASMAC outlet at Ambalpuram near Chidambaram.

The team comprising Chidambaram Deputy Superintendent of Police V.Palani and inspector Arivalagan, detected that K. Pattibhiraman (20) and K. Sasikumar (23) died due to cyanide poisoning. The breakthrough came within 24 hours of the death.

K.Manivannan (30), a welder, and S.Ravichandran (20), second year ITI student have been arrested. It is said the two, using a syringe, injected cyanide into the liquor bottle and the youth who consumed the liquor died.

Manivannan conspired with Ravichandran to eliminate Pattabhiraman following reports that Kalaiarasi wife of Manivannan had developed intimacy with Pattabhiraman.

The student reportedly procured cyanide from Kasukadai Street at Chidambaram and mixed it with liquor and kept the bottle in the farm shed where Pattibhiraman used to stay.

Pattibhiraman and Ravichandran consumed the liquor and died within minutes.

The police said the accused called on the Ambalpuram Village Administrative Officer and confided in him.

On production before the Porto Novo judicial magistrate, they were remanded to 15 days' judicial custody.

The police took special interest as the incident had a bearing on the liquor being purveyed through the TASMAC outlets.
