Training programme

THANJAVUR, NOV.29 . The Collector, J. Radhakrishnan, inaugurated a training camp for the committee members of village panchayats, set up to oversee implementation of the `Namadhu Gramam,' at Punnainallur Mariammankoil panchayat today.

Under the scheme, a sum of Rs.1.10 lakhs would be allotted to each village panchayat for development of infrastructure such as roads and streetlights. Education, poverty alleviation, prevention of child mortality, improving public healthcare would be given importance.

The Collector said that cement roads should be laid and solar lights be used.

P. Rajendran, Project officer, District Rural Development Agency, C. Rajendran, MLA, Nanji Varadarajan, chairman, Thanjavur panchayat union, participated in the meeting.

Later, the Collector visited A.V.Pathi Nagar at Srinivasapuram here where an approach road was being laid and instructed officials provide drainage facility.

Tiruvarur

A 14-member committee has been formed for each one of the 430 village panchayats in Tiruvarur district to oversee development works under the `Namadhu Gramam,' says the Collector, P. Ekambaram.

He inaugurated a training programme for the committee members of four village panchayats at Pulivalam Panchayat near Tiruvarur and a computer centre there today. Ayyaru, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, was present.
