Three elephants that strayed into Kolathur near Mettur in search of water on Tuesday evening have damaged crops.
With severe drought conditions in forest areas, wild animals enter villages in search of water and fodder. On Tuesday evening, three elephants from Palar forest area in the Tamil Nadu – Karnataka border entered Pannavadi Parisal Thurai to quench thirst. They reportedly drank water that had stagnated in the pits in River Cauvery. They also damaged the crops cultivated near the river.
As on Wednesday, they continued to remain in the same area. Forest officials have warned villagers not to drive away the elephants. Officials are monitoring the movements of the elephants.
