`Take steps to control mosquito menace'

Councillor seeks streetlights' restoration

ATTUR: Councillors of Attur Municipality have urged officials to initiate concrete measures to control mosquito menace in the town. At the municipal council meeting here on Thursday, councillors said they had received complaints on the menace and insisted frequent cleaning of all drainage channels in the town.

The councillor of Ward 2, Raja, complained that streetlights in Uppoodai area had not been working for the last two weeks.

Pointing out to similar complaints from public, the Chairman of the council R. Sengottuvelu instructed municipal engineers to restore the lights immediately.

The battered approach road to the new waste disposal site at Appammasamudram could be re-laid while implementing the solid waste management programme, suggested the councillor of Ward 33 Duraisamy.

Issues pertaining to drinking water supply were discussed at the meeting. Councillors passed all the resolutions, except two. Municipal Commissioner R. Mathinathan and officials from various departments were present.
