Suki Sivam honoured

CHENNAI, AUG. 21. Four persons, including an exponent of spiritual discourse, Suki Sivam, were awarded titles by Sri V. Narayana Iyer Memorial Trust here today.

While Mr. Sivam was given the Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy Award and conferred the title Pravachana Vachaspathi, the Dr. Nalli Award was presented to Sudha Seshayyan. Sri. N.K. Mahadeva Iyer Award went to C.L. Ramakrishnan and G.K. Subramania Iyer Award to Thamal Ramakrishnan.

Justice Prabha Sridevan, judge of the Madras High Court giving away the award, said bhakthi was a state of mind when an individual was able to communicate to the Supreme Being. She said the younger generation was yet to understand the rich tradition, culture and heritage, and commended people like Mr. Sivam who functioned as a bridge by fusing traditional values and modernity. Later, speaking on `Edhu Bhakthi,' Mr. Sivam said all-embracing love was the equivalent of bhakthi, which was nothing but taming the irrepressible heart.
