`Students should develop communication skill'

THANJAVUR, MARCH 17 . Students should develop communication skills during their college days to come up in life, said D. Swamiraj, Director, Bishop Heber College (Autonomous), Tiruchi, here today.

Delivering the College Day address at Ponnaiyah Ramajayam College here, Prof. Swamiraj said that English is not only a language of culture but also a language of commerce. Countries such as China and Japan, which once thought of surviving without English were now concentrating on English as they wanted to compete with other countries in this era of globalisation. He also called for quality and creativity in higher education.

Prof. Swamiraj distributed certificates, prizes and cash awards to students and teachers who recorded cent per cent attendance and results.

C. Nagarajan, principal of the college, said that the college got `A' grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The college now offers 12 UG courses, 13 PG courses, five M.Phils and three Ph.Ds. There are 181 teaching staff out of whom 28 are Ph.D scholars.

The college is expecting deemed university status at any time, he said, adding that the UGC expert committee would visit the college in April.
