Students get free musical instruments

THANJAVUR, MARCH 24. Twenty-three Adi Dravidar students studying in the Government Music College at Thiruvaiyaru, near here, were provided with free musical instruments under the Adi Dravidar welfare scheme on Tuesday.

The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, distributing the musical instruments (12 veenas, six violins, two nadaswarams, two tavils, one mridangam and 18 sruti boxes), worth Rs.1.66 lakhs, to the students advised them to work hard to become great musicians and bring laurels to the institution, parents and to the nation.

He said that the musical instruments were provided through the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation scheme following the efforts of the Department of Art and Culture.

R. Kousalya, Principal, Government Music College, and R. Muthu, Assistant Director, Department of Art and Culture, spoke.
