Teachers of government schools should strive to improve the pass percentage of students in public examinations and work towards helping Tiruchi district emerge on top in the State, Collector K. Rajamani has said.
Chairing a meeting with School Education department officials to review the steps taken to increase enrolment and improve the pass percentage in government schools here on Friday, Mr. Rajamani called upon the Education Department officials to ensure that students were taught in simple methods so that they could understand the subjects well and clear the exams.
He also instructed the officials and teachers to improve enrolment. Schools with poor strength and excess staff would be identified and taken to the notice of the government.
The department, in particular, should focus on improving enrolment of children from hilly areas in Thuraiyur by sensitising the parents. Enrolment of students has improved, over the previous year, in schools at Uppilliyapuram, Andhanallur, Manikandam and Marungapuri taluks. However, this should be enhanced further. Steps should be taken to improve enrolment in schools with poor strength in Vaiyampatti, Lalgudi, Pullampadi, Manachanallur, Thuraiyur, Musiri, Thottiyam, Thathaiyengarpet, Tiruchi and Tiruverumbur areas, he added. Chief Educational Officer M.Ramakrishnan and other officials attended the meeting.
