Stolen tanker traced within hours

CHENNAI, MARCH 17. A tanker with 12,000 litres of kerosene, reported missing from Pallikaranai on Wednesday night, was traced within hours by police at Madhavaram Milk Colony.

According to police, the tanker , owned by S. Sridharan (36) of Korukkupet, was stolen from an open ground in Pallikaranai while the lorry driver and the cleaner were eating dinner. They informed Mr. Sridhar, who filed a complaint with Pallikaranai police.

Venkatesan, a Head Constable, who was on night patrol, spotted the vehicle in the Madhavaram Milk Colony area. Subsequently, a police team arrested Devaraj, who brought the vehicle to Madhavaram from Pallikaranai.

Business rivalry was behind the tanker heist, police said.

A case under Section 379 (Theft) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against Devaraj. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to 15 days judicial custody, police added.
