Special pay for police welcomed

Pondicherry Nov. 1. The PCC president, V. Narayanasamy, today welcomed the Government decision to pay special pay of Rs. 2,500 to each of police personnel in the Union Territory in recognition of their services.

Talking to reporters here, Mr. Narayanasamy, MP, said this was a step in the right direction. At the same time the Administration should keep a vigil on `intrusion' of members of organisations that were banned in other States into Pondicherry.

The secretary of the Pondicherry unit of the CPI (M), T. Murugan, also welcomed the Government order and said payments should be recurrently available to the police and the Home guards personnel.

The Administration should bring salaries and allowances paid to the men in uniform on a par with their counterparts in New Delhi.
