SP dies of heart attack

COIMBATORE: C. Murugeswaran (53), Superintendent of Police, heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch CID, probing the Coimbatore serial blasts case, died of "cardiac arrest" at a private hospital in Vadavalli on Monday.

He was admitted to the hospital following complaints of chest pain. Mr.Murugeswaran belonged to the 1987 batch of the Tamil Nadu Police service (Group I services). He was instrumental in nabbing the dreaded ace-bomb maker and extremist Imam Ali in August 1995 at Mettuppalayam. He was posted as SP of SIT in 2001. A post-graduate in Tamil Literature, he hails from Kavundapadi in Erode district and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
