Solar, wind-powered LED lamps to light up Vellore Fort

Light emitting diode (LED) lamps powered by solar photovoltaic panels and mini windmills will decorate the Vellore Fort.

Launching the new facility here on Sunday, Health Minister K.C. Veeramani said, “A hybrid power system of photovoltaic panels and mini wind mills, a power regulation mechanism and LED lamps have come up at the fort at a cost of Rs.90 lakh. Vellore Panchayat Union has executed the project under Self Sustainability Programme with a sum of Rs.30 lakh coming as public contribution and the rest from government.”

Presiding over the function, Collector P. Sankar said that the fort stands as a symbol of religious harmony and people should not damage it.

Vellore Mayor P. Karthiyayini, Deputy Mayor V.T. Dharmalingam, Ranipet MLA A. Mohammed Jhan, Panchayat union chairperson Ranjitha Anandaraj and Block Development Officer K. Jagannathan were present.
