Slow, steady and a `surprise' approach

Though the use of bicycle has come on owing to the advent of modern living, it is still the preferred vehicle for campaigns.

Knowing the fact full well, the Collector, Sivaganga district, Anand Patil, who was invited to inaugurate a cycle rally organised to mark the World Tourism Day on Tuesday, suddenly started riding a bicycle, much to the surprise of top officials, who were present at the Thirupattur road in Sivaganga, the starting point of the rally.

Somehow, officials followed suit.

He drove along the Court, Gandhi Street, Teppakulam, Aranmanai and new bus stand.

Mr. Patil did the same at Karaikudi too.

The act of the Collector attracted the attention of curious onlookers and passengers, who were at the bus stand and streets.

"It is an easy method to carry messages," the Collector said.

"As bicycle moves slowly than two wheelers, it gives ample time to reach out the minds of the people," Mr. Patil added.
