SHG-run Internet kiosks for villages in Nellai dt.

TIRUNELVELI, MARCH 24. The Collector, Atul Anand, has informed that self-help group-maintained Internet kiosks would be established in the villages so that the rural public could send their petitions to the district administration through Internet without coming all the way to the Collectorate.

Speaking at a function held on Wednesday on creating consumer awareness for government officials, he said the district administration had taken efforts to host the names of the voluntary blood donors in the official website of the district so that public could easily reach the donors at the time of emergency through the proposed internet kiosks.

He said 225 cases were filed against errant ration shop staffs during last year, and a fine of Rs.4.35 lakhs imposed on them. While the district administration could sell 242 tonnes of government iodised salt through ration shops in the district, these outlets ensured a sale of 18.50 tonnes of `Ooty Tea,' 115 per cent more than the target.

The Commissioner, Tirunelveli Corporation, D. Chandrasekaran, said the government officials should know about the rights of the consumers to discharge their duties efficiently.

The Collector released a handbook for the benefit of the consumers and the Commissioner received the first copy of it.
