PUDUKOTTAI: Naval personnel rescued seven Sri Lankan refugees, all from Jaffna, off the coast on Sunday and handed them over to the police.

The refugees were drifting in the sea after their boat developed a snag, said sources. Baladandayuthapani, a fisherman of Jegadapattinam, who sighted the refugees, brought them ashore with the help of naval personnel who handed them over to the custody of the Jegadapattinam police. Refugee Tahsildar M. Devadoss said they were immediately sent to the Mandapam camp.
