Seven killed in accident

NELLORE, DEC. 27. Four persons died on the spot, three succumbed to the injuries at Government Hospital, Gudur, four were shifted to hospital at Tirupati and six persons were admitted to the Government Hospital, Nellore, when the tractor trailer in which they were travelling overturned near Manubolu, about 30 km. from Nellore, on Thursday morning. Another 16 persons have also been admitted to the Gudur hospital.

According to information, a group of persons from Kasaram village of Tottambedu mandal, Srikalahasti, Chittoor district, were returning home after visiting the Sri Venkayyaswamy temple, at Golagamudi, on the outskirts of Nellore town, when a lorry hit it from behind, resulting in the tractor skidding off the road. The tractor trailer was said to be carrying about 40 persons.

The names of those who were killed have been given as G. Kumar Setty (40), K. Muneyya (50), B. Damaiah (30), Chenna Reddy (40), T. Muni Reddy (40), K. Venkatasubbaiah (38) and B. Guravaiah (42).

CM grieved

The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressed shock over the tragic road accident in Nellore district in which seven persons were killed and 25 injured early on Thursday.

He directed the Minister for IT-enabled Services and Employment Generation, Mr. B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, to rush to Tirupati and personally monitor relief and medical treatment of the injured. The Collector, Nellore, was asked to sanction ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of the deceased and medical treatment to the injured, a CMO press release said.
