Seek alternative sources of water: Swamy

CHENNAI NOV. 7 . The Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, today urged the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to seek medium and long-term ways for alternative sources of water rather than depend on Karnataka for Cauvery water.

In a statement, he said the Government should set up plants for desalination of seawater from Pondicherry up to Poompuhar.

The Chief Minister should also help the efforts of the film star, Rajnikant, and the Janata Party at getting the linking of southern rivers implemented by the Government.

"There is not enough water for the needs of both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery, and the position is going to become more acute as Karnataka continues to increase the acreage under irrigation in the Mandya district," he said.
