Security plan for Thevar birth anniversary

MADURAI, OCT. 7. Collectors and police officials of five southern districts met today at Ramanathapuram to discuss a security plan for the birth anniversary celebrations of Muthuramalinga Thevar at his birthplace, Pasumpon, near Kamuthi on October 30.

Guidelines and the routes to be taken by visitors to the memorial were discussed.

Transportation of people in open vehicles would not be allowed and only buses, cars and vans should be used.

Use of loudspeakers and carrying arms have been banned and all vehicles will be checked at check posts.

The police would ensure adequate security for residential areas and on important roads.

K. Chellamuthu, Ramanathapuram Collector, who presided, said adequate precautions would be taken to prevent any untoward incident during the three-day celebrations, beginning on October 28.

The district administration has declared a local holiday for all educational institutions in Ramanathapuram district, except Kamuthi, for October 30. All institutions in Kamuthi will remain closed for three days from October 28. All liquor shops in the district will down their shutters during the three days.

The Collectors, D. Raajendiran (Madurai), A. Mohamed Aslam (Virudhunagar), Atul Anand (Tirunelveli) and Chandrasekaran (Tuticorin); the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Alexander Mohan; the Superintendents of Police, Ashok Kumar Das (Ramanathapuram), Sundaresan (Madurai Rural), Jayachandran (Virudhunagar), Anandkumar Somani (Tirunelveli Rural) and Sandeep Ray Rathore (Tuticorin), and the Deputy Commissioner, Madurai, Venugopal, attended the meeting.

Vehicles coming from Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Melur, Madurai, Theni and Sivaganga should pass through Manamadurai, Parthibanur and Abiramam. Only vehicles from Sivaganga will be allowed to take the same route in the return direction. Others should go through Kamuthi, Kannarpatti Junction, Keezharamanadhi, Melaramanadhi, Mandapasalai, Kariapatti and Madurai Ring Road.

Vehicles from Sattur, Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur, Sivakasi, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli should take the Aruppukottai, M. Reddiapatti, Mandapasalai, Kanavilakku, Kannarpatti, Kamuthi route in both directions. Those from Tuticorin should take the Sayalkudi, Kovilankulam and Kamuthi route in both directions.

Vehicles coming from Tiruchuzhi should pass through Mandalamanickam, Kannarpatti Junction and Kamuthi to reach and return from Pasumpon.

Those from Narikudi should take the Veerasozhan, Mandalamanickam, Kannarpatti and Kamuthi route.

Vehicles from Rameswaram should take the Ramanathapuram, Chatrakudi, Paramakudi, Parthibanur and Abiramam route.

Those from Uthirakosamangai should go through the Chatrakudi, Paramakudi, Parthibanur and Abiramam route. Buses, cars and vans from Paramakudi should take the Parthibanur-Abiramam route.

Those from Nainarkoil should pass through Ottapalam, Paramakudi, Parthibanur and Abiramam and from Mudukulathur and Kadaladi, the Perayur-Kamuthi route.

Sayalkudi vehicles should take the Kovilankulam-Kamuthi route and from Sikkal, they should go through Keezhaselvanur, Kadugusandai, Chatram, Sayalkudi, Kovilankulam and Kamuthi.

Vehicles from Keezhathuval should take the Keezhakanniseri, Mudukulathur, Perayur and Kamuthi route and those from Kumarakurichi should pass through Gandhi Nagar, Paramakudi, Parthibanur and Abiramam. Ilayankudi vehicles should go through Manamadurai, Parthibanur and Abiramam and those from Thondi, Tiruvadanai and RS Mangalam, the Seekiyamangalam, Kalayarkovil, Sivaganga, Manamadurai, Parthibanur and Abiramam route.
