Security beefed up

TIRUCHI, AUG. 14. Security has been stepped up in railway stations and on important bridges in the Tiruchi division and at other places as a precautionary measure on the eve of the Independence Day celebrations.

The Government Railway Police, along with the Railway Protection Force, are keeping a strict vigil in stations, passenger areas and other vital installations.

A senior GRP official here said their personnel were frisking passengers in all major railway stations before they entered the platform.

Pickets had been posted on major bridges and at important culverts. With assistance from the local police and village thalaiyaris, the GRP personnel were conducting online patrolling of the railway tracks.

The GRP personnel were also being used on train beats along with the RPF personnel. The security arrangements began yesterday, the official added.

Meanwhile, RPF sources here said a strict watch was being kept in the railway yard and other vital installations of the railways.
