Security beefed up at vital installations

Pondicherry Aug. 26. The Pondicherry Administration has beefed up security at all vital installations and government premises in the wake of twin blasts in Mumbai yesterday.

An emergency meeting was held today by the Chief Secretary, R. Padmanbhan, with senior police and Intelligence wing officials.

A communication from the Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) said the Chief Secretary instructed the police department to keep utmost vigil and take security measures around vital installations.

The meeting also evolved plan of action to ensure smooth celebration of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival in the Union Territory. Police pickets would be posted at important places of worship and sensitive points. Identification badges should be issued to those who would participate in the idol immersion procession.

People were requested to pass on information to the police if they came across any unclaimed or abandoned parcels.
