Secure safe release of fishermen, Govt. told

Pondicherry Nov. 10. The Organising Secretary of the Pondicherry PMK, N. G. Panneerselvam said here today that the Fisheries Minister and the Secretary of the Administration should, if necessary, fly to Sri Lanka after getting the formal nod from the Centre to hold parleys with the government of that country for safe release of the 10 fishermen of Cottuchery Medu (near Karaikal) now under custody there.

The fishermen who were on a routine fishing in the sea strayed into the Sri Lankan water limits during last week of October and had since been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy. Mr. Panneerselvam said instead of wasting time by issuing statements and expressing hope of safe return of the fishermen the Administration here should talk to the diplomatic sources of Sri Lanka in Chennai.
