Secretariat revamp report soon

Chennai Aug. 26. A five-member committee set up to revamp the Secretariat here is likely to finalise its report by Friday.

The panel, which met for nearly four hours at Fort St.George today, discussed various issues including transfer of employees of the Secretariat to other government offices, reducing the number of holidays and modernising the functioning in government departments.

The committee, headed by the Finance Minister, C. Ponnaiyan, is said to have decided to meet again on August 29 to give a final shape to the report. At the meeting, officials are said to have come up with the suggestion of reforming the functioning of government offices across the State and not just at the Secretariat alone, a highly-placed source said.
