Search for Yobu Saravanan in Bangalore

CHENNAI: Two separate teams comprising police officers attached to the City Crime Branch have proceeded to Bangalore and Hyderabad from here in search of Yobu Saravanan of Vellore.

A senior CCB officer said here on Thursday that after they received a complaint from Francis of Pudukottai district, a case of cheating was registered against Yobu Saravanan and his associate W S S Rajan of Vellore district.

The complaint was that the duo had promised to give civil contract works to Francis, a civil contractor, from whom they received about Rs. five lakh as earnest money deposit (EMD). As he was never given works, he demanded return of money. When the cheque which they had given bounced, Francis preferred a complaint.

After a preliminary probe, the police arrested Rajan and remanded him to custody on Wednesday. Based on his confession, two teams have gone to Bangalore and Hyderabad to secure Yobu Saravanan, the officer added.

Meanwhile, the CCB police arrested one person from Kerala here on Friday and remanded him to custody on charges of cheating several civil contractors, assuring them of contracts from Yobu Saravanan.

The police said that based on a complaint from one Udaykumar of Nedumangadu Tiruvananthapuram, a probe was conducted. It came to light that one Daniel (58), an associate of Yobu Saravanan acted as a commission agent. He collected huge money from various civil contractors in the area including Udaykumar, but never got them the works as promised.
