School for HIV infected children in Thrissur

Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: The State Government has decided to start an aided school exclusively for HIV-infected children, in Thrissur, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday.

At the inauguration of Asha Kiran, a home for such children at Pampady, near here, Mr. Chandy said the Government would shortly launch the next phase of the anti-AIDS campaign that would focus on rehabilitation of HIV-infected people and their families. The earlier phases were for creating awareness on HIV and safe sex, he added.

The Chief Minister stressed the role of non-governmental organisations in HIV-related campaigns, especially in the next phase. However, this did not mean that the Government was trying to back out from its responsibilities, he said.
