TAHDCO funds for Tuticorin district



Tuticorin: The district administration has introduced a scheme for comprehensive development of agriculture land belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on an outlay of Rs. 27.40 lakhs, sanctioned by the TAHDCO, at Governagiri and Mudukalankulam in Tuticorin district.

Official sources told mediapersons that under the scheme, help would be extended to the people of SC/ST community to establish organic farms, vermin-compost pits, contour bund and `drip and sprinkler' sets to augment their income generation capabilities.

Milch animals and poultry would also be supplied to farmers to sustain their living standards.

The sources said that as part of the project, training programmes on skill upgrading would be organised in these villages by the Agriculture College and Research Institute under the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University at Killikulam.

The entire scheme would be monitored by a project implementing committee, comprising officials from agriculture, animal husbandry and rural development departments.

A technical committee headed by the Collector would evaluate the works proposed by the implementing committee, the sources said.
