Satellite terminal at PSG college

COIMBATORE, MARCH 11. The University Grants Commission (UGC) will install a satellite interactive terminal at the PSG College of Arts and Science to send and receive information from EDUSAT, the educational satellite.

Equipment delivery

In a letter to the college authorities, the Director, Consortium for Educational Communication of the UGC, Prof. G. D. Sharma, said that the Commission would fund the project through the consortium, and deliver the equipment to the college.

This support is a one-time grant.

Using the terminal, staff and students would establish two-way communication and access data from the central hub of the Indian Space Research Organisation at Ahmedabad.

Nodal agency

The consortium is an inter-university centre and nodal agency created by the UGC.

This is to promote higher education through electronic media.

Seventeen multimedia centres are currently producing educational programmes in association with the consortium.

During the past two decades, Doordarshan National Network has transmitted the educational programmes of the consortium, and retransmitted them through terrestrial television transmitters in India.

Since Republic Day last year, the consortium has been operating a 24-hour satellite channel for higher education.
