Saraswathi Subbaiah passes away

PONDICHERRY: Freedom fighter and first woman legislator of the Pondicherry Assembly Saraswathi Subbaiah passed away on Saturday afternoon after a brief illness. She was 80.

She participated in the National Federation for Indian Women's meeting being held in Pondicherry. However, she was admitted to the Government General Hospital on Saturday morning after she complained of pain.

The wife of late Communist leader V. Subbaiah, Mrs. Saraswathi Subbaiah was born on 22 October, 1924 and represented the Cassucadai constituency from August 19, 1959 to June 30, 1963.
