Rs.33.77-lakh loans to be sanctioned to 2,127 persons

PERAMBALUR, AUG. 1. Loans to the tune of Rs. 33.77 lakhs will be sanctioned to 2,127 persons belonging to the backward communities during this year by the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Economic Development Corporation (TABCEDCO), the Collector, D. Vivekanandan, has said.

In an official release here, he said the TABCEDCO sanctioned loans for starting trades such as making handloom goods and ready-made garments, and it released Rs.18 lakhs in individual loans to 49 beneficiaries. Under the Women's Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Rs. 6 lakhs was sanctioned to 78 women who had completed the entrepreneurship training. A total of 521 women were sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs. 10 lakhs, under the micro-credit programme, he said.

He said Rs. 69.39 lakhs would be allotted for the distribution of free cycles to 4,300 girls belonging to the backward, most backward and denotified communities. The cycles would be distributed by the end of this current academic year. A hostel for Adi Dravida students would be constructed at Padalur on an outlay of Rs. 30 lakhs, including Rs. 5 lakhs sanctioned from the MLA Local Area Development Fund.

Mr. Vivekanandan said 100 village panchayats were selected for the implementation of the Total Sanitation Programme. On an average, 10 villages were identified in each panchayat. Arrangements would be made for the supply of vehicles for the collection of garbage. A sum of Rs.7.98 crores was being spent this year for the construction of individual and institutional toilets and women sanitary complexes. About 67,000 individual toilets out of a target of 78,600 were completed, he said.
