Rs. 74.95 lakhs earmarked for self-help groups

MADURAI: The district administration had earmarked a sum of Rs. 74.95 lakhs for self-help groups to start self-employment programmes, the Collector, T. Udhayachandran, has said.

Speaking at a seminar on the "socio-economic development of Adi-Dravidars and Scheduled Tribes" here on Thursday, he said that officials, SHG members and voluntary organisations should take steps to disseminate information on various welfare schemes under the Tamil Nadu Adi-Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) to the beneficiaries.

Stating that Rs.165.92 lakhs was allotted for TAHDCO schemes during the current fiscal, he said Rs. 31.5 lakhs was earmarked for women to purchase agricultural lands and Rs. 21.8 lakhs for individual schemes.

The Additional Collector and District Rural Development Agency Project Officer, R. Kirloskar Kumar, also spoke, according to an official release.
