Rs. 3 crs. for Dharmapuri farmers under Horticultural Mission

Mango orchards to be set up; subsidy for farmers



Dharmapuri: The State Government has sanctioned Rs.3 crores under the National Horticultural Mission for Dharmapuri district for 2005-06. Based on the scheme new mango orchards would be created in the district and model nurseries established under poly green houses to increase the cultivation area and to provide high returns to farmers.

A sum of Rs.1.15 crores has been allotted for implementation of the scheme in the current year, said the Collector, M. Chandrasekaran here on Saturday.

Under the scheme farmers would be given a subsidy of 50 per cent or Rs.9 lakhs for establishment of major nurseries and Rs.1.50 lakhs for establishment of small nurseries. Along with this plantation of mango saplings would be taken up on 900 hectares in the current year.

Subsidy

A subsidy of 75 per cent or Rs.11, 500 would be provided to farmers to take up cultivation on one hectare. Similarly a subsidy of 75 per cent or Rs.11, 000 would be provided to farmers to take up cultivation of turmeric and chillies on 75 hectares.

Mr. Chandrasekaran said a subsidy of 75 per cent or Rs.12, 000 would be given to farmers to take up cultivation of cut flowers on one hectare. The Government would provide a subsidy of 75 per cent or Rs.15, 000 per hectare for renovation of old mango orchards and creation of new orchards in the district.

In an effort aimed at cultivation of cut flowers under poly green houses a subsidy of 50 per cent would be provided for establishment of green houses.

A sum of Rs.90 lakhs has been sanctioned for creation of 12 farm ponds to increase the area under horticultural cultivation in the district.

The Government would also provide a subsidy of 50 per cent to farmers under the Integrated Horticultural Development Scheme and 50 per cent subsidy for bee keeping. Farmers who are interested in using the above subsidies can submit applications with horticultural officials in Dharmapuri, Nallampalli, Pennagaram, Palacode, Karimangalam, Harur, Morapur and Pappireddipatti on or before February 3.
