Rotary plans slew of welfare schemes

KARAIKAL: The Rotary International District-2980 plans to launch various welfare projects, said its Governor Velayutha Ravindran here recently.

Inaugurating `Amitie-2006,' a Rotary District seminar on public relations, organised by the Rotary Club of Karaikal Centennial, she said scores of people had been benefiting through Rotary's welfare schemes, including rehabilitation projects for tsunami victims. She said 100 permanent houses were constructed for tsunami victims in Nagapattinam.

Z.M. Taher, past president of Rotary Club of Karaikal Centennial, V. Prabhakaran, president, and the chief guest, Anil Johari, Group General Manager, Karaikal facility of Oil and Natural Gas Commission, also spoke.Ilasai Sundaram, Director, All India Radio, Madurai, in his keynote address, stressed the indispensability of the media in reaching out to the public.
