Road accidents claim two lives

CHENNAI NOV. 24. Two youths died in separate road accidents in the Guindy Traffic Police limits on Saturday.

Murali (28), working as a salesman in a jewellery shop in T.Nagar, died after he fell from the two-wheeler he was riding in Aranganathan sub-way.

He was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Two of his friends, who travelled with him, sustained injuries and were undergoing treatment at the hospital, police said.

In another accident, Wayne Daniel (21), working as an executive with a cellular phone company, died on the spot when he was hit by a lorry from behind, near the Halda junction.

CDs, foreign liquor seized

The Flower Bazaar police unearthed a video piracy unit functioning on Jones Road and arrested one person.

A raid was conducted following a tip-off and police seized CDs of films released for Deepavali, which were being copied. Two computers, 500 unrecorded CDs and 30 CDs of the latest Tamil movies were also seized.

A special party raided a house on Mettu Street and seized 56 bottles of foreign liquor. A 22-year-old man was arrested in this connection, the release added.

Woman set ablaze

A 36-year-old woman died after she was allegedly set ablaze by her husband at Kotturpuram.

According to police, the victim, Padmavathy, wife of Moorthy, an autorickshaw driver, residing on New Street, was allegedly dowsed with kerosene and set ablaze after the couple had a quarrel on Saturday. Then he pushed her inside a room and locked it from outside.

She was admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where she died today. Moorthy was arrested.
