Rise above party politics: Ramadoss

CHENNAI, AUG. 21. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder, S. Ramadoss, today urged the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to give up her "confrontationist course" and strive for joint efforts to promote the State's interests.

In a statement issued here, he said even as the Kerala Chief Minister had struck a compromise with the opposition parties to work united for the welfare of the State, Ms. Jayalalithaa had intensified antagonism by launching a blistering attack against the Opposition. Referring to Ms. Jayalalithaa's recent charge that the Union Ministers from the State had not helped in getting drought relief from the Centre, Dr. Ramadoss said the "hollowness of the accusation" had been exposed by the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar, who had made it clear in the Parliament that the State Government had not formally submitted any letter seeking Central assistance.

Dr. Ramadoss accused Ms. Jayalalithaa of listing even the rollback measures as her Government's achievements.

Tamil Nadu could attain a pre-eminent position only if the Chief Minister rise above party politics while dealing with issues concerning the State's interests, he said.
