Reacting too much?

Sir, — Of late, Deepavali seems to be getting more attention than it deserves. First there was the campaign against crackers because manufacturers allegedly used child labour. Then we were told that the celebrations started too early in the day. Now we have noise and atmospheric pollution being presented as reasons against celebrations. How much pollution can a day's firing of crackers cause? Is it more than automobile pollution? What about political meetings that last for hours? I wonder if a little too much is not being made of a one-day affair.
