`Raise medicinal plants for better revenue'

ERODE: Farmers, especially those in the dry area, should raise medicinal plants, to earn better revenue. In Moolanure, a dry area, 520 farmers have raised medicinal plants in over 215 hectares, the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Wednesday said.

He was participating at a mass contact programme at Chinna Madrudur village, near Moolanure.

The Collector said the Horticulture Department under the Western Ghat Development Programme would grant materials valued at Rs. 14.57 lakhs to farmers. He said out of the 9,166 SHGs in the district 8,448 were provided with revolving fund, economic assistance to the tune of Rs. 35.22 crores and.

The SHGs were being provided with wasteland for development.

The Collector asked villagers to keep their village clean and wanted them to send their children regularly to schools. He wanted the industries not to employ children below 14 years.

The Collector distributed Rs. 9 lakhs to 110 persons.

The Dharapuram Revenue Divisional Officer, R. Venkata Priya, among others participated.
