PONDICHERRY: Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadass has said that the Union Railway Ministry had accepted his request to expedite the electrification of the 40-km broad gauge track between Villupuram and Pondicherry.

The need to electrify the section, converted to broad gauge in April last, was felt as newer services could be operated.

He said that the Union Railway Minister had promised that the work would begin on July 1. The project cost of Rs. 9 crore would be shared equally between the Railway Ministry and Pondicherry administration. He was addressing presspersons here on Saturday after PMK founder-leader S. Ramadoss released a booklet on the achievements of the PMK Member of Parliament from Pondicherry in the past one-year.

Mr. Ramadass said that there would be express train between Pondicherry-Chennai.
