"Villagers need AIDS education"



In an effort to fight against AIDS, the Vickram College of Engineering, Enathi in Sivaganga district has started a Red Ribbon Club, which was inaugurated recently.

Speakers said that it was a step taken in the right direction for effecting social change, not only among the educated, but also to use the educated to reach the villagers in the rural pockets.

V. Jeyapaul Sathiasaran, Head, Department of Training & Placement, welcomed the gathering.

The chief guests were Sam C. Bose, a leading plastic surgeon, and Maria Pushpam Babu, Field Officer, Tamil Nadu State Aids Control (TANSAC), Madurai District.

There was a video display which showed how families became HIV positive, with no chance of recovery.

The need for humanistic approach was emphasised in dealing with AIDS patients. R. Chandrasekar, senior lecturer participated.
