"Home Guards deserve more appreciation"

As they themselves involve in service unlike police: Additional Superintendent of Police



Thanjavur: Personnel in uniformed services should serve the people without discriminating the people on the basis of caste, creed or colour, said Y.John Nicholson, Additional Superintendent of Police, here on Sunday.

Speaking at the Home Guards Day celebrations, he said that Home Guards deserve more appreciation as they involve themselves in service while the police personnel were paid for their work.

Earlier, women Home Guards demonstrated first aid activities while men Home Guards demonstrated rescue operations and fire fighting skill.

K.N.Muthukumaraswamy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Armed Reserve, said that Home Guards were being used as a regular force along with police in States like Haryana and Karnataka.

Their services could be utilised in a similar way in Tamil Nadu also.

One per cent of police posts could be reserved for them.

Senthil Kumar, Area Commander, Home Guards, said that soon group insurance would be implemented for Home Guards in Thanjavur.

M. Selva Kumar, Platoon Commander, recalled the services of Home Guards in Thanjavur.

G.L.Fernandez, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur town, Jayabalan, Divisional Commander, and T.G.Mohan, company commander, spoke.
