Q branch searches Pavannan's residence

PUDUKOTTAI DEC. 25 . A team of Q branch officials from Chennai today conducted a search at the residence of the Tamil Mandram Organiser, R. Pavannan, who was arrested in July this year on sedition charges.

A close associate of P. Nedumaran, Tamil Nationalist Movement leader, Pavannan was arrested by the Erode police from his residence in Pudukottai on July 3, on charges of speaking in support of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and against the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, at a meeting at Kavindapady on June 24.

The team, led by the DSP, Krishnan, conducted a search at his residence and an industrial unit owned by him today.

The operation lasted about three hours.

However, the officials remained tight-lipped on whether any seizures were made from the premises.

Sources said the searches were conducted to gather material evidence for the cases booked against Pavannan.

This is the second time that his residence was being searched by police units since his arrest. An Erode police team searched the house and the factory on August 30.
